Стандартный период учета (обычно продолжительностью 12 месяцев, но не обязательно совпадающий с календарным годом, а также с бюджетным годом), за который производится подсчет прибылей и убытков, а также на конец (начало) которого составляется бухгалтерский баланс. В течение Ф.г.действуют и исполняются планы, составленные в форме бюджетов, смет, балансов доходов и расходов.

С 1994 г. это положение изменилось и бюджетный год будет совпадать с календарным, начинаясь 1 января и завершаясь 31 декабря. На бюджетный год рассчитываются налоги: подоходный и на увеличение рыночной стоимости капитала, ежегодные скидки налогообложения наследства; в Великобритании в бюджете делаются оценки развития экономической ситуации в бюджетном году. В США бюджетный год начинается 1 июля и завершается 30 июня следующего года. Иногда бюджетный год называется tax year-налоговый год или year of assessment-годом налогообложения.
